Never look at the Sun without eclipse glasses
Even 92 per cent covered, the Sun burns your retina in seconds, painlessly. You need glasses certified to ISO 12312-2: sunglasses, smoked glass and photographic filters are not enough, and never through binoculars or a camera without a front filter.
How this was computed
Sun and Moon positions from the JPL DE440s ephemeris (Skyfield), obscuration as the geometric overlap of the two apparent discs. The local horizon is ray-traced over a 75 metre elevation model out to 80 km towards west-northwest, including Earth curvature and refraction, with the observer 1.7 m above ground. Check: for Bern the model gives 91.5 per cent at 20:19, against a published 91.3 per cent at 20:18. Very sharp summits come out slightly lower than reality, so mountain figures are if anything conservative.
